CNN has announced the recipients of its annual Heroes Gala. They are: Carol Blocks, Debbie Cox, Colleen Cheever, Demondri Jones, Pat Day, Patricia White, Louann Johnson, Mark Robertson, Rick Shera and Dr Ona Watson.
Since 1968, the annual CNN Heroes Gala has raised $18.5m to support national and international projects. In 2018, for the 10th consecutive year, CNN’s Heroes Gala made $1.6m. CNN Heroes is the only cable or satellite television award show to include the stories of real people. CNN Heroes highlights the ingenuity and passion of everyday Americans to improve their communities, as selected by millions of viewers around the world. Award winners are nominated by CNN viewers and provided with a fully funded nonprofit project.
Each year, journalists on the award show unveil how inspirational stories from around the country contributed to advancing civil rights, diversity and equality, inclusion and the environment. Each Heroes honoree was selected from more than 100,000 nominations received from across the globe.
